#fortifiedfriday - Hey hey hey! PX is here. Pedro Ximénez, for sure one of the most gnarliest wine styles out there. This Friday I will spoil my sweet tooth with a small glass of this Don Guido PX 20 Years. ‘Why only a small glass’, you ask? Because it’s soooo sweet! But it is quite delicious. Aged PX has a certain immortal feel to it which I like. Doesn’t really need much else than this. Maybe just a cigar or a shot of insulin. Sherry rocks!
#fortifiedfriday - After a few weeks of absence I’m tasting a Palo Cortado sherry. Man, it feels good to be back!
#fortifiedfriday - This Friday I fill my glass with a very interesting sherry from Emilio Lustau. I must admit that sometimes I struggle with sweet sherry wines. I mean PX is usually so sweet and thick like porridge that I can’t handle it without a shot of insulin. But this wine really floats my boat. East India Solera is a blend of two different sherry styles, oloroso and pedro ximenez. The wines go through separate soleras and after they’re blended together they will go through a solera together for three years or so. Sound complicated? It is. That’s why the result is beautifully complex wine with great drinkability.
#fortifiedfriday - Torres is without a doubt one of the most recognized wine brands in the world. Many of us have tasted some of their wines before, for example the famous bull wine Sangre de Toro. But today I’m tasting a little less known wine they produce which is a fortified wine made from Moscatel grape variety. The sexy sweetness and the perfume-like floral aromas are very seductive in this wine. Very upfront and powerful but if you like that sort of style then this is for you.
#fortifiedfriday - Time to uncork FF’s first sherry. I think it’s unbelievable that from a neutral grape variety like palomino it is possible to produce such a wide variety of beautiful fortified wines. I do understand that it’s not the easiest style of wines but if you have patience to learn about sherry and taste what it has to offer you just might become a fan for life. This Amontillado from Delgado Zuleta is a good wine to kick off the weekend and our first Fortfied Friday Virtual Tasting. For more info, click here. BRING ON THE SACK!
