#fortifiedfriday - As you may know today is Good Friday and the only thing good about it is that it’s Fortified Friday which means I can open something tasty. This time I went for a Madeira and it’s rocking. Not an expensive one but simple, tasty with a very good drinkability. Madeira, if God made anything better he kept it to himself.

#fortifiedfriday - This week I’m tasting a young vintage port from Duorum. The project started in 2007 which makes it a very young project. But behind the project is a team with a long history in wine making. So, let’s pop open this port and see what it’s all about.

#fortifiedfriday - This week I’m tasting a Quevedo colheita port from 1992 (bottled 2009). Colheita is my favorite style of port (if I have to pick one) and I could drink that stuff by the gallons with incredible ease. In Helsinki it’s around -20°C today so that alone is a good reason to enjoy some great fortified wines. Saude!

Ilkka was downing wine at Radio City on Friday.

#fortifiedfriday - Next up Niepoort! You might ask yourself why o why did I choose the basic ruby from all the wines they make. Well, the answer is two fold. First, this is the only port from Niepoort available in the Finnish monopoly selection. Second, you got to start somewhere and I thought a decent ruby would be perfect to jump start things. Don’t worry. I will get to the amazing colheitas later. ;)

#fortifiedfriday - Today I’m tasting a LBV port a.k.a. Late Bottled Vintage from Quinta de la Rosa. Over shadowed by vintage port LBV is a category often disregarded as the “cheap filtered stuff” but never mind the bollocks. They’re not even partially right. Yes, LBV’s sometimes lack the intensity of v-ports and rarely outlast them…Duh! It’s a different style of wine. There’s room in this world for both of them and if you have an open mind you can make some great discoveries.

#fortifiedfriday - Today I’m tasting a wine from Setúbal, Portugal. José Maria da Fonseca (a.k.a. JMF) is one of the oldest wine companies in Portugal and very famous for their Moscatel de Setubal fortified wines. Often overshadowed by port it’s not the most well known fortified wine style in the world but more than worthy of mention. These wines usually offer great drinkability when young and when it’s time to wrestle with the big boys some of these wines show amazing longevity and complexity. Kippis!

Ps. ViiniTV is hosting the world’s first Fortified Friday Virtual Tasting taking place next week on the 11th of November LIVE from Helsinki, Finland! Click this to check out the Facebook event for more info.

#fortifiedfriday - We’re going to kick off Fortified Fridays with a lekker 10-year-old tawny port from Dow’s. The idea of Fortified Friday is to create some conversation around these beautiful wines that don’t really get the attention they deserve in the conventional wine media. If you like port, sherry, madeira or any other style of fortified wines please join the conversation and let’s get fortified!

Sticks & Stones. This time we had a couple of white wines on the table, one from Germany and one from Portugal. Peter J. Kühn is one of the most interesting wine producers at the moment in Rheingau and Alves de Sousa one of the most well known wine houses in Portugal. ROCK N ROLL!

The boys, Ron Jeremy and AIR from Portugal. (via THEVIINITV.COM)
