#fortifiedfriday - Hey hey hey! PX is here. Pedro Ximénez, for sure one of the most gnarliest wine styles out there. This Friday I will spoil my sweet tooth with a small glass of this Don Guido PX 20 Years. ‘Why only a small glass’, you ask? Because it’s soooo sweet! But it is quite delicious. Aged PX has a certain immortal feel to it which I like. Doesn’t really need much else than this. Maybe just a cigar or a shot of insulin. Sherry rocks!
#fortifiedfriday - Time for some Aussie port. This is amongst the very few fortified wines that I’ve tasted from Australia. It’s a very nutty and tangy Tawny styled wine. So much so that my friend guessed it was a sweet oloroso when he tasted this blind. It’s “only” 18% and lighter in body compared to its Portuguese cousins. Slight chilled this was a tasty bottle. Nothing super complex but very enjoyable. It’s nice to see Barossa produce something good for a change. *ZING*
My new #fortifiedfriday clip!
#fortifiedfriday - This week I’m tasting a young vintage port from Duorum. The project started in 2007 which makes it a very young project. But behind the project is a team with a long history in wine making. So, let’s pop open this port and see what it’s all about.
#fortifiedfriday - I spent almost two months in Brazil in Dec-Jan and I visited the south where the most important wine region is. I stayed in Bento Gonçalves which is about two hours drive from Porto Alegre the capital of the state Rio Grande do Sul. I visited a bunch of Brazilian wineries and the over all experience was very positive. I found a fortified wine from Vinícola Salton which is a fairly large family owned winery. The wine is called Intenso and it’s made from 100% chardonnay.
#fortifiedfriday - Next up Niepoort! You might ask yourself why o why did I choose the basic ruby from all the wines they make. Well, the answer is two fold. First, this is the only port from Niepoort available in the Finnish monopoly selection. Second, you got to start somewhere and I thought a decent ruby would be perfect to jump start things. Don’t worry. I will get to the amazing colheitas later. ;)
#fortifiedfriday - Friday 13th is a perfect time to open a bottle of Greek fortified wine, don’t you think?
#fortifiedfriday - Today we’re tasting a port style fortified wine from South Africa from a producer called Monis. Fortified wine production has been around in South Africa for quite a while so they’re no newbies in the matter. I suggest you find some fortified juice from SA…bru!
#fortifiedfriday - Merry Christmas!
Freak Circus. Cognac with ice, Moldovian sparkling wine, South-African Sherry. Pheeeeew!
#fortifiedfriday - Banyuls is great example of the diversity of fortified wines. A tiny place in South France produces this rich yet subtle wine most people havn’t even heard of. Exciting isn’t it? I double dare you to go find some Banyuls and continue discovering the world of fortified wines.
